American Bank Incorporated (OTC BB: AMBK), the parent company of American Bank, today announced that they will be closing at 2:00 pm Eastern Time on Friday, June 19th to recognize Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The day marks an effective end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest running African American holiday. Forty-seven of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have recognized Juneteenth as either a state holiday or ceremonial holiday, a day of observance, Pennsylvania being one of them.

President and CEO Mark Jaindl states, “American Bank recognizes the importance of Juneteenth and the significance of what happened on this day in Texas 155 years ago. This is an opportunity for us to reflect while acknowledging steps we can take now, and in the future, to ensure inclusion and diversity in our workplace and our community.”
